Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility, muscular strength and endurance movements.  Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance.  Pilates is named for its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises in the 1920’s.

How long is a session?

All classes are 55 minutes and designed as a total body workout.  No two sessions are ever the same.

What to bring to class?

Bring your own towel and water bottle.  Wear workout apparel that you are comfortable in.  We do recommend grip socks for better traction on the equipment.  We recommend that women wear their hair up and men wear biker shorts underneath any baggie shorts.

I’ve never done Pilates before.  Can I join a group?

Most new participants have never done Pilates before.  As long as you have no injuries, have had recent surgery, or are pregnant you can join any reformer group class.  Your instructor will modify all movements to compliment how your body is moving.  Come a few minutes early to receive a little explanation of the reformer and how it works.
